What's inside my camera bag? Take a look!

When it's time for a photoshoot, my go-to gear is already in the bag. Still deciding which tools to use for your family photos? Look inside my camera bag for a few great suggestions!

My Favorite Camera

I love my Sony α7R III so much, even my backup camera is pretty similar. Both cameras are full frame and mirrorless, which I've found best for newborn shoots. The mirrorless camera's much faster shooting speed is vital for catching a newborn's precious, split-second grin. On top of that, the wider angle of a full frame camera contains more of the surrounding area than a crop-sensor. Another major plus, dual card slot in case either memory card is compromised.

A Professional Photog should always have two cameras in case one has an issue.

A Lens For Every Occasion

With the G Master FE 2.8/24-70mm, I'm sure to never miss a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The 2.8 f-stop on this zoom lens is more-than-adequate for well-lit portraits and even overcast outdoors photoshoots.

I have quite a few prime lenses in my bag as well. The Sigma 50mm 1:1.4 DG really puts the focus on the subject by strongly blurring out the background (known as the bokeh effect).

Many mothers prefer the slimming effects of my G Master FE 1.4 85mm. Besides maternity shoots, the 85mm is great for outdoors. At that focal length, the background appears much closer. This brings the nature to you while keeping your little one safe from the elements.

I also have a Sony Zeiss FE 1.4 35mm. This lens offers the lightest bokeh effect and wider field of view, which is best for bringing out the background or framing multiple children.

It's What's Not In The Camera Bag That Counts

Believe it or not, a photo's best qualities have little to do with the precise specs. Shot composition is the key to capturing not just an image, but a story. Knowing how (and when) to adjust settings such as aperture and ISO can make a photo ten times better, whether your camera costs $200 or $2,000. Having an eye for photography is the best tool you can have in your arsenal.
